Album Review: THE PSYCHOTIC REACTION : "RUMBLE"

A sprawling album of lo-fi eclec-tronica from Grimsby. The Psychotic Reaction are unmistakably British, but not in a skagged-up yob pop way; and unmistakably arty, but not in a "my marginal noise experiment is more marginal than your marginal noise experiment" way. Their sonic-cauldron contains among other elements: space-rock, whimsical pop, staccato Brit-punk, and Barrett-esque absurdist psychedelia. There’s even a playful blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nod towards Johnny Thunders. At times they remind me of an under-nourished avant-garde version of the Beta Band, elsewhere they sound like nothing else currently blotting the musical landscape. All in all: an interesting, inventive (if slightly-overlong!) body of work. Long may they rule the underground!

Victims of geography

I confused Tom by living in Grimsby (and it confuses me as well!) but the band is actually from Whitstable.
